“When I moved here four years ago, I did not like the segregation I saw around the city. The Freedom Project helped me connect with diverse young professionals to build an appreciative and inclusive community.” - -Johnmark Oudersluys
"Joining the Freedom Project has been such a great experience for me. The basis for this group touches so many different aspects of our lives which in turn effects the community in a very positive way. It provides a place to learn and be open about our differences (race, gender, socio-economic standards etc.) and encourages you to think outside your normal world. Along with providing opportunities to give back to our community in many different ways. Aside from the stated "agenda," for me it has also been a place to meet really great people. People who want to make a difference and be a positive component of our community. " --Andy Schmidt

"I got involved in the pilot Freedom Project back in 2007. I heard about this amazing effort to pair volunteer work with a focus on building diverse relationships among young professionals who were interested in improving race relations and breaking down the “invisible” barriers that exist in Cincinnati. Although I have lived here all my life, the Freedom Project enlightened me as we explored our city's rich history and I gained a better understanding of deeply rooted racism is here. For me, talking about racism and segregation openly and honestly with other people from all walks of life opens our hearts and minds to the possibility of solutions! I got involved because I was interested in doing something about the very real issues we have in Cincinnati. Weather its east vs. west or black vs. white, these separations are engrained in our society. The Freedom Project wants to do something about it. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but today its still standing and the Freedom Project is another brick the positive development our city needs to be an even better place to live, work, play, raise families and thrive. I wouldn’t trade some of the great friendships I’ve formed through my experience with FP for the world!
